Bee Looking For Honey

You've heard about planes hitting birds.  You've heard about birds getting stuck in the engine of the plane.  You've heard of all sorts of things that could delay a plane.  However, have you ever heard of a plane being delayed because of bees?

We left REALLY early this morning to head to the airport to catch our flight to Miami.  All in all, it was a good flight.  We had a little bit of a layover in Miami, but finally boarded.  We were on our way to St. Thomas!!!

We ended up sitting on the plane for awhile, and finally the pilot came on saying that we had a mechanic looking at an issue with the plane.  All I could think was, "Great...we're never going to get there, and I'm so close!"  So we sat there a little bit longer.  Then a couple of flight attendants came back and were looking out the window and pointed out to us a swarm of bees that were on a piece of the wing that assists the pilots when flying.  Turns out, that was the reason for our delay.  Seriously!  I will say, that there were A LOT of bees!  The mechanics and pilots had never seen anything like this before, and weren't quite sure what to do.  They tried starting up the engines, but that didn't scare the bees off.  It ended up that they had to bring in a fire truck to hose down our plane.  The whole situation was quite interesting and unusual to say the least.  I mean, c'mon...who really thought bees could delay a plane!

The whole situation delayed a flight by a half hour, but we made it!  We are FINALLY in St. Thomas!  More to come on our trip after we return!!
