It's Hard to Beat that California Sunshine

Justin and I have been desperate for a vacation!  We are both heading into our busy seasons for work, so we had to make it a quick trip and couldn't go too far from home.  We decided to take a trip to San Diego.  It is a city we both like to visit, but always end up there for work and never have the opportunity to enjoy the city.  In addition, a few months ago, the San Diego CVB held an event in Indianapolis for area meeting planners, and I ended up winning a night at The Lodge at Torrey Pines.  With one free hotel night to use, it seemed like San Diego was the best choice.  Not to mention, my great colleagues in San Diego also hooked us up with free passes to USS Midway and the San Diego Zoo - both places Justin has ALWAYS wanted to go.

We started our trip in Old Town San Diego, then headed to La Jolla, home of Torrey Pines Golf Course.

After spending the night at Torrey Pines, we headed back into San Diego to go to the zoo.

That's when everything started to go wrong.  The longer we were at the zoo, the worse Justin began to feel.  We cut our trip to the zoo short and headed to our hotel in the marina.  As the night went on, Justin got sicker and sicker.  In fact, so sick, we ended up in an emergency room in San Diego - what a great way to spend your vacation.  Turns out, Justin had food poisoning.  After 4 hours in the ER, we made our way back to the hotel to crash and get some rest since we had been up for most of the night.

The next morning, we decided to take it easy, as Justin was starting to feel a little better.  We spent some time walking around the marina and then visited the USS Midway.  I couldn't wait to show Justin where I had held my event on the ship.

Overall, despite the trip to the emergency room, it was a good vacation.  However, I'm trying to convince Justin that the trip was exhausting and not relaxing, so therefore we need another vacation.
