And the Thunder Rolls

Many of you have contacted us today wanting to know if we are Ok after the storms that rolled through Tennessee and other southern states last night. Thank you for thinking of us. We are in fact safe and were very fortunate compared to other towns down here.

While we did have severe storms that contained heavy winds, downpouring rains, thunder, lightening, and hail, our area was fortunate enough that we didn't have any tornados. Towns southwest and northeast of us weren't so fortunate. In fact, in Hendersonville our sirens never even went off. A tornado did touch down in Gallatin which is about 10 miles northeast of us. I didn't see any damage when I left for work this morning, but other areas of Sumner County must have been hit hard as all of the county schools were closed today. It is so hard to imagine tornados in February! The only problem that I experienced this morning were the stop lights which were out of order....that made for some interesting traffic this morning in downtown Nashville to say the least.

Again, we are safe and thanks for thinking of us. As far as the fatalities/damage goes, the good news is that all of the students at Union University in Jackson, TN who were trapped in the rubble of their dorms which collapsed from a tornado have all been rescued and are safe while sustaining a few injuries. On more of a sad note, the most recent news I have seen is that 54 people have died as a result of these storms in Kentucky, Arkansas, Mississippi, and the majority being in Tennessee. So if you have a moment, take some time to think about these families who have lost their loved ones.
