She's been a good dog

It's been a rough week so far for the munchkin! Zoe's been to the vet twice already this week! I don't know how I'm going to drag her there next week to get her monthly injection of her Addison's medication.

Here's why she's had to go to the vet...
Zoe has had a small growth on her back leg for quite some time now. We've had it looked at by the vets several times, and have kept an eye on it ourselves. We tried putting some cortisone ointment on it, and it seemed to minimize the size of the growth, but it's never gone away. Of course, without actually removing it, the vets really don't know what it is. The problem that we were running into was that we couldn't let it get much bigger. The bigger it got meant the more intense it would be to remove. That in turn meant that Zoe would have to be put under vs. giving her a local anesthetic if it was small. With Zoe being an Addison's dog, we can't really have her put under as there becomes a risk of her not coming out of it. So, while it was still small, we decided to go ahead and have it removed.

However, before we could have it removed, we had to have some of her shots updated. I took her last week to get her bordatella shot. Zoe's never had to have this because we don't board her anywhere, but because she was going to be hanging out at the vet's office for awhile she needed to have it done. When I took her in to have it done, they asked if I wanted her to have a shot of the medication or liquid they shoot up her nose. I knew she would hate the liquid one, but then again, the poor girl gets stuck with a needle every month. So, I went with the liquid, which is the vet's preferred option. Needless to say, it didn't make her very happy.

On Monday, Justin took her to get parvo/distemper booster. She was not happy about that either from what I heard. Justin had to pull her out from under the bench where she was hiding. Then when he went to grab her arms, she put her paw up against his arm and pushed herself back so that she was sitting on only her back legs with her back up against the wall. It was almost like she was saying, "No way am I going to let this happen!" Justin said the vet and tech found it pretty funny.

Finally, yesterday was the big day. She went in to have surgery to have the spot removed. They gave her a local anesthetic and she came through with flying colors! The vet said that she did really well, although I heard she was a little upset about the collar they put on her! They ended up using around 5 staples to close the wound. The vet chose to send the growth off to have it checked into further. She said it was pretty deep and wrapped up in the tissue, but considering the part of her leg it was in, that was expected. She also said that it didn't look anything that we should be too concerned about, but then again, she has seen some pretty crazy things. We should have the test results back by Monday.
